
GWU's Sears and Parks to Compete at the 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Eugene, Ore. - Gardner-Webb rising sophomores Carson Sears and Johnathan Parks will both be competing this weekend at the 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Sears, the 2011 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year and two-time all-conference member, will compete in the hammer throw event slated to start on Friday, June 24th, at 10:50 p.m. pacific time.
Sears took second-place at the 2011 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet in the hammer throw event with a mark of 57.39 meters. His personal best distance in the hammer on the season was a throw of 57.76 meters at the Clemson Tiger Final Qualifier back on May 13-15th.
Fellow Runnin' Bulldog and classmate Parks is scheduled to compete in the 110-meter hurdles event, with the first round slated for an 11:55 p.m. pacific time start on Friday. The 110-meter finals are set for 2:25 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
Parks came on strong toward the end of the 2011 outdoor season, picking up a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles and a 12th-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles at the conference championships. His personal best time in the 110-meter hurdles is a time of 15.08, which was good enough for fourth-place overall at the Carolina's Cup on April 8th in Rock Hill, S.C.
Friday's events at the 2011 USA Junior Track & Field Championships are scheduled to be broadcast by ESPN2 on June 24th from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. eastern time and will re-air on ESPN2 on June 25th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. eastern time.
Saturday and Sunday's events will be carried on Universal from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and then on NBC from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. eastern time.
