Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's swimming program
has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2011-12 competition
season, featuring three home meets including two against
in-conference foes College of Charleston and Virginia Military
Institute, all in preparation for the ÇCSA Championships
February 16-18.
The Runnin' Bulldogs kick off the season September
17th with an open water meet at nearby Moss Lake in
preparation for a grueling fall schedule lasting through October
and November.
Gardner-Webb will travel to face the Seahawks of UNC-Wilmington
on October 15. The journey to Wilmington, N.C. will be the second
in as many years for GWU, facing the successful team from the
Colonial Athletic Association.
Gardner-Webb will turn around two weeks later to compete before
a home crowd in Boiling Springs, N.C. against new opponent Queens
University. The October 29 contest between the Runnin' Bulldogs and
the Royals, in its inaugural season as a swimming program, will
begin at 10 a.m.
November marks the opening of conference competition for the
Runnin' Bulldogs when GWU hosts VMI on November 4. The men's only
meet between the two conference opponents will start at 6 p.m.
The Gardner-Webb men will then prepare for their crucial
midseason taper meets. GWU will compete at the Georgia Tech Invite
in Atlanta, Ga. and the Wingate Fall Frenzy in Charlotte, N.C.
November 18-20, 2011 in preparation for the conference
championships in February.
After USS Nationals (LC) in Atlanta on December 1-3, the Runnin'
Bulldogs will complete Christmas training December 29 - January 7
in Sarasota, Fla. Gardner-Webb will follow the training trip with a
meet facing Darton College at the campus of Georgia Southern
University on January 8.
The GWU men follow with a road trip to Gaffney, S.C. on January
19 to face Limestone College. The rivalry meeting between the two
teams is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
Two days later the Gardner-Webb men will travel to take on rival
and defending CCSA champion Davidson College on January 21. The
following week will feature another conference battle as
Gardner-Webb hosts College of Charleston on January 28 in what will
be a heated affair on GWU's campus.
Following the two conference dual meets, GWU will have 3-4 weeks
to prepare for the 2011-12 CCSA conference championship meet. The
three-day meet will be held at the University of Georgia February
16-18 and will conclude GWU's 2011-12 regular season.
The Men's NCAA championships will be held March 22-24 in
Seattle, Wa.
