GWU Women's Soccer Falls To Western Carolina 2-0 in Exhibition Play

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team kicked off its 2011 season with an exhibition match on Sunday night, as the Runnin' Bulldogs fell on the road to Western Carolina 2-0 in Cullowhee, N.C.
The home team jumped out to an early lead on the Runnin' Bulldogs, as in the seventh minute Samantha Hodge received a pass from Christine Cockrell and put a shot past the GWU goalkeeper Erika Lenns to put the Catamounts in front 1-0.
The score would remain in favor of the Catamounts 1-0 going into the halftime intermission, as Gardner-Webb was outshot 9-2 over the first 45 minutes of play, as Lenns' posted five saves for the Runnin' Bulldogs to keep GWU in the contest.
The second half of play mirrored the first, as again the Catamounts outshot the Runnin' Bulldogs 9-2.
Western Carolina posted an insurance goal in the 85th minute by way of a Kimberly Sullivan header just inside the box, handing the Runnin' Bulldogs a 2-0 loss.
Lenns' posted eight saves for the match, as she faced 18 shots over 90 minutes of play.
Gardner-Webb will continue its exhibition play this week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host Pfeiffer College on Thursday, August 18th, at 7 p.m. at Greene-Harbison Field in Boiling Springs, N.C.
