Kim Leads GWU to a Fourth-Place Finish at the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate

Florence, S.C. - Gardner-Webb golfer Daniel Kim paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with a top-five finish, posting a three-round combined score of 211, -5 under par, to lead Gardner-Webb to a fourth-place team finish at the 27th Annual Springhill Suites Intercollegiate hosted by Francis Marion at The Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.
Gardner-Webb carded team rounds of 296, 288 and 279 to finish the two-day and three-round event in fourth-place overall with a combined score of 863, -1 under par.
Kim, who led the Runnin' Bulldogs with a 3.90, -3 under par, scoring average on par 4 holes, posted a team-high 39 pars to finish with a combined score of 211, -5 under par, good enough for fifth-place overall. Kim carded rounds of 72, 72 and 67 for the two-day event.
Freshman Matt Yelverton had a strong showing in his first collegiate match, as the newcomer turned in rounds of 80, 69 and 68, to finish in a tie at 23rd-place with a combined score of 217, +1. Yelverton led Gardner-Webb with 12 birdies for the event.
GWU redshirt-senior J.J. Regan was consistent throughout the tournament, posting rounds of 72, 73 and 74 to finish in a tie for 28th-place overall with a combined score of 219, +3.
Rounding out the scoring for the Runnin' Bulldogs was senior Kristopher Gray, who carded rounds of 76, 75 and 70, to finish in a tie for 37th with a score of 221, +5, and redshirt-sophomore Jordan Duffy, who finished in a tie for 63rd-place with rounds of 76, 74 and 76 to give him a combined three-round score of 226, +10.
Furman University won the team championship, posting a team score of 856, -8 under par, finishing just four strokes ahead of both Samford and South Carolina-Aiken who finished tied for second-place with team scores of 860, -4 under par.
The Gardner-Webb men's golf team will return to the links on October 3-4, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete at the Joe Agee Invitational hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
