
Smith Leads Runnin' Bulldogs to Fourth-Place Finish at the Terrier Intercollegiate

Spartanburg, S.C. - Gardner-Webb's Lauren Smith finished tied for eighth-place overall, as the junior golfer led the Runnin' Bulldogs to a fourth-place team finish at the Terrier Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs carded team rounds of 309 and 305 to finish the two-day event with a combined team score of 614, +38.
Smith paced GWU, posting rounds of 76 and 75 to finish the tournament with a combined score of 151, +7, to take eighth-place overall. Smith, who posted five birdies, also recorded a par 5 scoring average of 4.88, -1 under par.
Fellow junior Hannah Hellyer carded rounds of 77 and 76 to finish in a tie for 14th-place overall with a score of153, +9, as she also posted five birdies and a par 5 scoring average of 4.88, -1 under par.
Gardner-Webb's Meghan Allum turned in rounds of 73 and 81 to place in a tie for 17th-place overall with a combined score of 154, +10. Allum, who also carded five birdies for the two-day event, led the Runnin' Bulldogs with a par 5 scoring average of 4.50, -4 under par.
Rounding out the scoring for the Runnin' Bulldogs for the tournament was Sammy Vass, who finished in a tie for 22nd-place with a two-round combined score of 156, +12, and senior Courtney Finocchiaro, who placed in a tie for 46th-place with a combined score of 168, +24.
Newberry College picked up the win with a combined score of 602, +26, finishing just ahead of Wofford College and Elon University who tied for second-place overall in the team standings with a combined score of 604, +28.
The Gardner-Webb women's golf team will return to the links for competition next week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete at the Great Smokies Women's Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina University.
