
Men's Tennis Hosts Fall Invitational, Notches Several Match Victories

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's men's tennis collected a number of individual match wins this weekend as the team hosted the GWU Fall Invitational September 24-25.
Gardner-Webb hosted the four team tournament, competing against USC Upstate, Presbyterian, and Wofford.
Junior Adam Knuttsson-Sundblad got the Runnin' Bulldogs going with an opening match win, defeating Wofford's Thomas Fanjoy 6-0, 6-4 to join four other GWU players who won their opening round match during singles play. Roman Piftor prevailed against Tom Wood (Wofford), winning his first match 6-2, 6-1 before falling 6-1, 7-5 (10-5) to Upstate's Yvon Haessig in round two.
Korhan Ates defeated Madison Daly (Wofford) 6-2, 6-0 in round one, and Brendan Dempsey won his opening match 6-2, 6-1 over Wofford's George Handy.
Blake Dunlap recorded a victory in the second round, taking the match over Handy (Wofford) 7-6, 6-4.
Junior Matthew Parker grinded out a three set match win on Sunday, defeating Presbyterian's Ed Sneed 4-6, 7-5, 11-9.
Dempsey picked up his second win of the weekend on Sunday, knocking off Nathan Crocker (PC) 7-5, 7-5 in round three. Stephen Martin also won on Sunday, taking an 8-2 victory over Ryan Walters (PC).
The doubles tandem of Piftor/Martin picked up an opening day win, defeating Daly/Handy (Wofford) 8-3 before falling to Upstate's duo of Haessig/Blanco 8-3 in round two.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will take a week off before the Davidson Fall Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Davidson, N.C.
