September 03, 2011 | Women's Soccer
Morehead, Ken. - The Runnin' Bulldogs suffered a tough loss Friday night, taking a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Morehead State Eagles.
GWU (1-1-1) never got its offense going and was forced to play defense for much of the match, as the Eagles' offense kept the pressure on the Runnin' Bulldog defense.
Morehead State (2-2-1) got off to a fast start, scoring on a Alyssa Nacke shot in the 12th minute which ricocheted off the hands of GWU keeper Erika Lenns and trickled into the goal.
GWU was not given a chance to rebound, as MSU's attacking offense continued to control possession. An Eagle goal by Paige Webber in the 27th minute made it 2-0 going into halftime.
The Runnin' Bulldogs continued to struggle in the second half, unable to get its offensive attack in gear and maintain possession on the Eagles' side of the field. GWU saw its closest attempt to get back in the game thwarted, as an Ele Margelos shot on goal was saved by the MSU keeper in the 88th minute.
MSU's Holly Tilley added a one-time goal in the second period to provide the final 3-0 margin.
Gardner-Webb keeper Erika Lenns garnered a season high 9 saves in the loss.
GWU will look to rebound and come up with a road win on Sunday, Sep. 4 at 1 p.m. as it stays in the state of Kentucky to take on Eastern Kentucky.
