GWU's Mike McClay Wins Big South Weekly Honor

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's Michael McClay has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the League announced today.
McClay, a sophomore from Lawrenceville, Ga., earned his first collegiate victory as he held off North Carolina's Matt Valeriani on the 5K course at the UNC Preview. His time of 14:55 over the 5,000 meters marked a personal best for McClay.
McClay's first-place finish was followed by four consecutive ones by host team UNC, as the GWU sophomore was able to hold off a host of Tar Heels running their home course.
McClay and the Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend at the Charlotte Duels (Charlotte, N.C.) on Saturday, Sep. 10. The meet is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. and will mark the second race for GWU in the 2011 season.
