
Gardner-Webb Women's Tennis Tabbed Sixth in 2012 Big South Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Winthrop University's women's tennis team has been voted first in the Big South Conference's annual preseason poll by the League's head coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office. The Lady Eagles picked up seven first-place bids and 79 points in earning its seventh consecutive No. 1 ranking.
Coastal Carolina claimed one first-place vote and 63 points to place second in the poll, one point ahead of Charleston Southern's 62 points. In fourth with one top vote and 54 points was Liberty, followed by Campbell at 46 points. Gardner-Webb landed in the No. 6 slot with 34 points, while UNC Asheville's 31 points was good for seventh. Rounding out the poll was Radford with 24 points and Presbyterian College, which earned 12 points.
The 2012 Big South women's tennis season begins this Sunday, Jan. 15, with Winthrop playing at Wofford. The first Conference match will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 15, as Gardner-Webb visits Presbyterian College. The Big South Women's Tennis Conference Championship is slated for Thursday-Saturday, April 19-21, and will be hosted by UNC Asheville.
