Men's Soccer to Face Off with Clemson and #12 Coastal Carolina This Week on the Pitch

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team will have yet another challenging week this week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs are slated to face off with both Clemson and No. 12 nationally ranked Coastal Carolina on the pitch in men's soccer action.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will step out of conference play one final time on Tuesday night, as GWU will hit the road for its annual match up with the Clemson Tigers at 7 p.m. in Clemson, S.C.
GWU will then return home to host the No. 12 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at 7 p.m. at Greene-Harbison Field in a key Big South Conference showdown.
Gardner-Webb (3-9-1, 2-2-1 Big South) is coming off a tough 2-1 double overtime loss at No. 23 High Point on Saturday night. Prior to the loss, the Runnin' Bulldogs had won three-straight matches, which included conference wins over VMI and Asheville.
However, Tuesday night's non-conference match will be a tough contest for GWU, as the Runnin' Bulldogs are only 1-7 this season in non-conference play with the lone win coming at home over Appalachian State, 3-2, in double overtime on October 2nd.
GWU is only 1-9-0 versus the Clemson Tigers in men's soccer action overall with the lone win coming back in 2009, a 1-0 win at Clemson in the two teams' season opener.
The Clemson Tigers are 4-7-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the ACC this season with wins over USC Upstate, N.C. State, Virginia and UNC Greensboro. Yet, the Tigers have lost two straight heading into play this week with both losses coming to North Carolina and Furman.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return home on Saturday night to host the Chanticleers, where Gardner-Webb is 2-2 at home thus far this season having won its last two matches at home over Appalachian State and VMI.
GWU is 1-4-1 versus the Chants overall with the lone win coming at home back in 2008. Since that victory, Coastal Carolina has won each of the last four meetings versus the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Coastal Carolina, who is 11-1-2 overall and 6-0-0 in Big South Conference play, has won eight straight matches and have not loss since a 1-0 overtime loss at nationally ranked Charlotte in late August.
