GWU Women's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season at Fighting Camel Fall Classic

Buies Creek, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team wrapped up its 2012 Fall season this week with an eighth-place team finish after 54 holes at the Fighting Camel Fall Classic held at the par-72, 6026-yard Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, N.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs carded team scores of 318 and 314 over the first two rounds on Monday, but struggled on day two with a team score of 331 on Tuesday to finish the two-day and three-round event with a combined team score of 963, +99.
Senior Sammy Vass, who carded the lowest round of the tournament for a GWU golfer with her second round 76, +4, paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with a combined two-day score of 239, +23. Vass turned in rounds of 80, 76 and 83, posting four birdies overall, to finish in 28th-place overall.
Behind Vass was fellow seniors Hannah Hellyer and Lauren Smith who both shot a three-round combined score of 241, +25, to finish in a tie for 30th-place overall. Hellyer, who posted six birdies for the event, carded rounds of 78, 79 and 84, while Smith recorded rounds of 81, 79 and 81 over the two-days of play.
Rounding at the competitors for GWU was senior Meghan Allum and freshman Mary Katherine Donovan. Allum posted rounds of 80, 80 and 84 to finish with a combined score of 244, +28, and in a tie for 45th-place, one stroke ahead of Donovan's score of 245, +29, who came in a tie at 47th-place overall. Donovan totaled a team-high seven birdies for the three-rounds of play.
Gardner-Webb junior Pilar Morgan played as an individual, registering rounds of 83, 85 and 83 to finish in a tie for 50th-place overall with her combined score of 251, +35.
The host of the event, the Campbell Fighting Camels, won the event with a final team score of 898, +34, finishing ahead of Old Dominion (906, +42), Longwood (918, +54) and CSU Fullerton (925, +61).
Campbell's Kaylin Yost, the 2012 Big South Women's Golfer of the Year, posted rounds of 73, 69 and 75 to take first-place overall with a combined score of 217, +1.
The Gardner-Webb women's golf team will take the winter season off and is slated to return back to competition at the Willow Creek Classic on the February 25-26th hosted by High Point University.
