Seniors Allum and Hellyer Lead the Women's Golf Team to a Second-Place Finish at the Winthrop University Intercollegiate

Rock Hill, S.C. - Gardner-Webb seniors Meghan Allum and Hannah Hellyer each posted a top-five finish to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a second-place team finish a the two-day Winthrop University Intercollegiate hosted by Winthrop University at the par 72, 5,979-yards Rock Hill Country Club golf course in Rock Hill, S.C.
Gardner-Webb turned in team rounds of 310 and 300 to finish with a two-round combined team score of 610, +34, to finish in second-place overall.
Allum led the Runnin' Bulldogs over the 36-hole event with rounds of 74 and 75 to finish in fourth-place overall with a combined tournament score of 149, +5.
GWU's Hellyer also posted a top-five finish, as the senior carded two rounds of 75 to finish in a tie for fifth-place overall with a two-day score of 150, +6.
Fellow seniors Lauren Smith and Sammy Vass finished in a tie for 13th and in a tie for 19th-place, respectively. Smith bounced back from a first round 80 on Saturday to shoot a 74 on Sunday afternoon to finish with a combined two-round score of 154, +10. Like Smith, Vass played better on day two, carding rounds of 81 and 76 to finish the tournament with a combined team score of 157, +13.
Rounding out the group for GWU was junior Pilar Morgan who recorded rounds of 81 and 84 to finish in a tie at 34th-place overall with her combined score of 165, +21.
Playing as individuals were both freshmen Mary Katherine Donovan and Tessy Tuschen. Donovan turned in rounds of 79 and 80 to finish with a combined score of 159, +15, good enough to place her in a tie for 25th-place overall, while fellow newcomber Tuschen carded rounds of 86 and 85 to finish in 43rd-place overall with here two-day score of 171, +27.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were 18 strokes behind the tournament champion in the Appalachian State Mountaineers who won the event with a team score of 592, +16.
GWU finished ahead of fellow Big South Conference members Winthrop, who finished third with a combined score of 612, +34, and Presbyterian College, who came in seventh overall with their team score of 636, +60.
The women's golf team will return to the links for competition on Saturday, October 20th, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete in a dual match versus High Point University at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C.
