
GWU Women's Soccer to Host Radford Thursday, VMI for Senior Day on Sunday

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's women's soccer is set for a pair of home Big South matches this week. The Runnin' Bulldogs will look to improve in the conference standings with matches versus Big South front-runner Radford on Thursday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m. and VMI on Sunday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m.
GWU (2-10-1) will look to continue its improve in its offensive production as Big South play continues, as the Runnin' Bulldogs' goal-scoring has picked up significantly since entering League play.
Led by freshmen Shelby Hooe (3 goals, 6 points), Samantha Gutierrez (1 goal, 2 assists, 4 points), and Nichole Poppe (2 goals, 4 points), Gardner-Webb has scored in five of six Big South contests thus far. GWU's improvement offensively stands out after being shut out in six of its first seven matches this season, all coming before conference play.
On Thursday, the Runnin' Bulldogs will need to continue its offensive progression against Radford (9-2-1, 5-0-1), a team which sits alone atop the Big South standings, leading the conference in both goals scored (29) and goals allowed (11). Julie Ruh'e (6 goals) and Mary Wiley (4 assists) lead the Highlander offense, while keeper Che Brown (6 shutouts, .90 GA) solidifies a stout Radford defense.
For Senior Day Sunday, Gardner-Webb will take on VMI (1-11, 0-6), a team that has lost nine consecutive matches and is looking for its first conference win of the season.
