GWU Women's Basketball Picked Ninth in 2012-13 Big South Preseason Poll

Charlotte, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team was picked to finish ninth in this year's Big South Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, voted on by both coaches and media members, announced the League office today at the 2012-13 Big South Conference Basketball Media Day in Charlotte, N.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs garnered a total of 62 points, which included one fourth-place vote and two sixth-place votes.
"I think that the Big South in women's basketball this season is perhaps the strongest I have ever seen it," Reeves stated. "To have CSU, who returns everybody from last year and gets back their starting point guard from an ACL injury last season, to picked sixth and then PC to everybody back from last year as well to be picked eighth just goes to show you the depth of the League as a whole."
The 2012 Big South Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champions in the Liberty Lady Flames were chosen atop of the preseason poll, receiving a League high 16 first-place votes, and a total of 233 points overall.
High Point (215 points) and Winthrop (199 points) came in at second and third-place, respectively, as each earned a number of first-place votes as well.
Rounding out the top-five was Campbell at number four with 159 points and Radford at number five with 154 total points.
Gardner-Webb is coming off a 4-25 season last year, in which the Runnin' Bulldogs played the likes of North Carolina, Southern California, Duke and Louisville. While the Runnin' Bulldogs will be young once more, as 11 of the 15 student-athletes on the roster are true sophomores and freshmen, Coach Reeves and his staff have high hopes on improving on last year's record.
"I am not surprised to be picked where we were, after last season and having a lot of new players again this season, but we are a lot better know than we were last year," Reeves continued. "Barring any injuries or any other unforeseen circumstances, I think we will have a good season. I think come tournament time we will be like the tradition GWU teams and that we will be a team for other teams to worry about."
