
Four Runnin' Bulldogs Score in Double Figures in 84-50 Win Over Montreat

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball had four players score in double figures, as the Runnin' Bulldogs defeated Montreat College 84-50 on Wednesday night in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Gardner-Webb improved to 3-0 on the season with the win, as the Runnin' Bulldogs held Montreat College to only 50 points in the game, 40 points below its average of 90 on the season.
GWU was led by junior Jasmine Dale, who poured in a game-high 19 points, while fellow junior Catrina Green posted her second straight double-double on the year with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Freshman Olivia Parker poured in a career-high 13 points, as she was 7-of-11 from the free throw line, while sophomore Jessica Heilig had a career-high 15 points and sophomore Chariah Harris hauled in a career-high 11 boards in the win. Sophomore Mayhana Dunovant also chipped in a career-high six assists off the bench for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
For Montreat, Alexandria Gellman registered 17 points and five rebounds, both team-highs.
Gardner-Webb outscored the Cavaliers 52-18 in points in the paint and out-rebounded Montreat College 56-32 on the boards.
Montreat scored the first bucket of the game on a lay up by Kaitlyn Clontz at the 19:49 mark and took an early 2-0 lead.
The opening 15 seconds of play was the first time that the Runnin' Bulldogs had trailed all season long, as seven seconds later a three-pointer by Dale put the home team in front 3-2.
After a three-pointer by Montreat put the visitors back in front by two at 5-3, GWU answered with a 16-4 run, capped off by back-to-back made free throws by Parker, to push the Runnin' Bulldogs in front by 10 at 19-9.
GWU continued to put the defensive pressure on the Cavaliers, forcing Montreat into 23 turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play en route to taking a 45-21 lead into the halftime break.
Gardner-Webb outscored Montreat 30-6 in points in the paint and 21-6 in points off turnovers to take the double-digit halftime lead.
Montreat cut the Runnin' Bulldog lead to 19 at 47-28 on a lay up by Gellman at the 17:38 mark, only to see the home team push back out in front by 30 points on an old-fashion three-point play by Dunovant to put the score at 58-28 with 13:56 to go in the game.
The Cavaliers would not get any closer than 24 points for the rest of the contest, as the Runnin' Bulldogs youth continued to play well over the final 10 minutes of the contest in the 84-50 win.
Gardner-Webb's bench again outscored its opponent by double digits, as GWU's bench outscored Montreat 31-18.
GWU also recorded 21 assists, a season-high, as well as 18 steals.
Gardner-Webb (3-0) will hit the road for the first time this season this Saturday afternoon, November 17th, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will take on UNC Greensboro at 2 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
