College Sports Madness Names Landis Big South Conference Player of the Week
November 19, 2012 | Men's Basketball
Landis (Indianapolis, Ind. / Perry Meridian HS) averaged 15.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.7 steals for the Runnin' Bulldogs in a busy, three-game week - and was at his best in an upset of DePaul on Thursday.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound standout scored a career-high 20 points, pulled down four rebounds, dished off four assists and had three steals in a dominant, 71-59, win for Gardner-Webb. The win was the program's first over a team from the Big East.
Landis had 13 points in a close loss to Lipscomb just one night before. In Gardner-Webb's narrow lost to Big Ten member Iowa, Landis dropped in 12 points and had two steals - helping GWU build a 38-18 halftime lead before falling to the Hawkeyes in Iowa City.
Landis leads the team in scoring with 14.0 points per game, and has knocked down 12-of-44 shots from long distance (36.4 percent). Landis is also a strong 12-of-14 from the free throw stripe (85.7 percent) so far in 2012-2013.
The former All-State and All-City selection from Perry Meridian (Ind.) High has been a huge presence for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the absence of starters and All-Big South candidates Mike Byron and Tashan Newsome - who are both out with injuries.
Gardner-Webb will battle Howard at 4:00 pm on Tuesday in the 2012 Cancun Challenge.
