GWU's Kim and Byles Each Finished Tied For Second-Place at the 2012 Hummingbird Intercollegiate

Sapphire, N.C. - Gardner-Webb senior Daniel Kim and redshirt-junior Daley Byles both finished tied for second-place overall, as the Runnin' Bulldogs as a team took fourth-place at the 2012 Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina University at the par-71, 6,767-yard Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Sapphire, N.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs posted team scores of 295 and 290 to finish in fourth-place overall with a two-round combined team score of 585, +17.
Byles, who shot a first round low 67, - 4 under par, on Saturday, carded a second round 74, +3, to finish tied for second-place with a combined two round score of 141, -1 under par. Byles led the tournament field with a 3.77, -5 under par, par-4 scoring average and was tied for the tournament high in birdies with 25 over 36-holes of play.
Finishing tied with Byles in second-place overall was Kim, as the senior posted rounds of 72, +1, and 69, -2 under par, to record his final score of 141, -1 under par. Kim also tallied a team-high nine birdies for the event.
Behind Byles and Kim was sophomore Matt Yelverton and senior Arron Price who both finished in a tie for 40th-place overall with their respective scores of 152, +10. Yelverton turned in rounds of 79 and 73, while Price shot a 77 and 75. Price also posted 23 pars over the two days of play.
Senior Jordan Duffy rounded out the competitors for Gardner-Webb, as he carded rounds of 80 and 74 to finish in a tie for 51st-place overall with his combined score of 154, +12.
Samford won the event with a combined tournament score of 570, +2, finishing 12 strokes ahead of both Western Carolina (582, +14) and Belmont (582, +14) who finished in a tie for second-place overall.
Behind Gardner-Webb was Francis Marion (589, +21) and Wofford (589, +21) who finished tied for fifth-place overall.
The individual medalist was Casey O'Toole of Samford, as he carded rounds of 69 and 69 to take first-place overall with his two-round combined score of 138, -4 under par.
The Gardner-Webb men's golf team will not return to the links for competition until the 2013 spring season, which the Runnin' Bulldogs will open up at the Davidson College Invitational on March 4-5th.
