GWU Wrestling to Host Movember Duals on Saturday in Paul Porter Arena
November 07, 2012 | Wrestling
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team host its first annual Movember Duals on Saturday, November 10th, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete against both No. 16 Virginia and George Mason in the tri-match meet in Paul Porter Arena.
No. 16 Virginia will take on George Mason at 9 a.m. to kick-off the duals, while Gardner-Webb will compete in the next two matches versus the Cavaliers at 11 a.m. and the Patriots at 1 p.m.
Movember's primary objective is to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. The ideals of the Movember organizations are to show people that most cancers are highly curable if caught in the early stages; therefore Movember aims to increase early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment. This will ultimately reduce the number of deaths from cancer.
Movember's cause is to change the face of men's health and reverse this way of thinking by putting a fun twist on this serious issue. Using the moustache as a catalyst, Movember intends to bring about change and give men the opportunity and confidence to talk about their health more openly.
In 2011, over 854,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world got on board, raising $126.3 million USD.
This year, after participating as a team over the past several years, the Gardner-Webb wrestling team has decided to do more to promote the Movember movement and do our part in raising awareness and funds to aid with prostate and testicular initiatives. This marks the first year that the Gardner-Webb Wrestling team will host the "Movember Duals" in an effort to raise funds.
All proceeds from ticket, concessions, and merchandise sales will be donated to the Movember organization in hopes of raising more funds for the movement.
"We are excited for the event, and hope to build each year as an effort to raise awareness for men's health and the cancers that we face," stated head coach Daniel Elliott.
