December 02, 2012 | Wrestling
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team will look to record its first Southern Conference dual match victory of the 2012-13 season this week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will face off with the Mountaineers of Appalachian State on Tuesday night, December 4th, at 6:30 p.m. in Boone, N.C.
Gardner-Webb (2-4, 0-1 SoCon) is coming off a tough outing last Saturday afternoon, as the Runnin' Bulldogs dropped three straight contests to Bucknell, Southern Illinois - Edwardsville (SIUE) and Indiana at the Hoosier Duals in Bloomington, Indiana.
With the loss to SIUE, the Runnin' Bulldogs are 0-1 thus far in Southern Conference action, as like GWU, the Cougars are associate members of the Southern Conference in wrestling beginning this season.
The Gardner-Webb wrestling team was hurt by a number of falls in its three matches at the Hoosier Duals, as GWU suffered eight pins overall in the three dual matches, four of which came against Bucknell and three against SIUE, in which the Runnin' Bulldogs' split the 10 bouts with five wins apiece in both the loss to the Bison and the Cougars.
Appalachian State (3-0, 0-0 SoCon) is undefeated thus far this season in dual match action with wins over George Mason (23-22), Anderson (S.C.) (40-6) and Belmont Abbey (39-9), all of which have come at home in Boone, N.C.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 12th-place team finish at the Keystone Classic on November 18th, as Dominic Parisi took third place at 125 pounds, Colin Hedash finished in fifth-place at 174 pounds and Paul Weiss took sixth overall at 197 pounds.
A tough task lies ahead for Gardner-Webb, as the Runnin' Bulldogs are 0-10 versus the Mountaineers on the mat in dual match action since the two teams first faced off back in 2001-02.
