
GWU Softball Announces 2013 Schedule

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb and softball head coach Tom Cole announced its 2013 softball schedule this weekend, which includes 32 road games and a 20-game road swing from mid-February to the end of March against teams such as Auburn, Georgia, Middle Tennessee State, Charlotte, Minnesota and Morehead State.
GWU opens up the season with a non-conference doubleheader with the Furman Paladins on Saturday, February 16th, and then will turn right around to host Morgan State in a twin bill on Sunday, February 17th.
Opening weekend will be the last time that the Runnin' Bulldogs will be at home for over a month, as the next five weeks, GWU is slated to play 20-games all on the road and away from Varsity Field in Boiling Springs, N.C.
The season-long road trip kicks off with a doubleheader at USC Upstate on Wednesday, February 20th, in Spartanburg, S.C. and then continues that same weekend, February 22-24th, in Wilmington, N.C. where the Runnin' Bulldogs will take on Morehead State, UMBC and UNC Wilmington at the Seahawk Classic.
The following weekend, March 1-3, GWU will head south to compete at the War Eagle Classic hosted by the Auburn Tigers in Auburn, Ala. The Runnin' Bulldogs will open the tournament with games against both Southern University and Auburn on Friday, March 1st, and will then take on Middle Tennessee State on Saturday, March 2nd, and Minnesota on Sunday, March 3rd.
After a four-day break, Gardner-Webb will face off with the Charlotte 49ers in a non-conference twin bill on Friday, March 8th, in Charlotte, N.C., before taking a week off to prepare for its Big South Conference opener the next weekend.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will open up its 2013 conference slate on March 15th & 16th, as GWU will take on the Fighting Camels of Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. for a three-game series.
Gardner-Webb will then step out of conference play to take on the Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday, March 20th, in Athens, Ga. for a single game, before returning to Big South action with a three-game series on March 23rd & 24th at Longwood University in Farmville, Va.
Coach Cole and his squad will finally return home on March 27th, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will open up a four-game home streak with a single game against Presbyterian, before hosting Coastal Carolina for a three-game conference series on March 29th & 30th at Varsity Field.
GWU will then hit the road for a midweek non-conference doubleheader at Western Carolina on Wednesday, April 3rd, prior to hosting the Winthrop Lady Eagles in a three-game conference weekend series on April 6th & 7th.
The next 10 games will all be on the road for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as Gardner-Webb will play twin bill on Tuesday, April 9th, against Presbyterian in Clinton, S.C. and then travel to Lynchburg, Va. for a three-game weekend series at Liberty on April 12th & 13th.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will step out of conference play one final time on Tuesday, April 16th, to take on the North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies in Greensboro, N.C., before wrapping up its regular season road slate at Charleston Southern on April 20th & 21st in Charleston, S.C.
Gardner-Webb will wrap up its 2013 regular season slate with a three-game home series against the Radford Highlanders on April 27th & 28th at Varsity Field.
The 2013 Big South Softball Championship Tournament, in which all nine teams will participate in this season, will be held at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. on May 9-12.
