Gardner-Webb Women's Golf Places Tenth at Spider Spring Break Invitational

Southpoint, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team recorded rounds of 334, 335 and 350 to place 10th overall in the team standings at the Spider Spring Break Invitational hosted by University of Richmond at The Reserve Course, 6,175 yards and par 72, at St. James Plantation in Southpoint, N.C.
Gardner-Webb shot a first round 334 and a second round 335 on Saturday, and wrapped up the three-round event with a third round combined team score of 350 on Sunday to finish the two-day event in 10th-place overall with a score of 1019, +155.
The Runnin' Bulldogs finished 14 strokes behind ninth-place Appalachian State (1005) and 51 strokes ahead of 11th-place finisher USC Upstate (1070).
Junior Meghan Allum paced the women's golf team, as she carded rounds of 81, 76 and 85 to finish with a three-round combined score of 242, +26, placing her in 11th-place overall. Allum finished the tournament tied for second in birdies with six for the event.
Fellow junior Hannah Hellyer finished in a four-way tie for 32nd-place with three other Big South competitors, as she posted rounds of 85, 84 and 84 to finish with a two-day score of 253, +37.
GWU's Lauren Smith recorded rounds of 86, 84 and 92 to finish with a combined score of 262, +46, good enough for a 46th-place finish, while sophomore Pilar Morgan rounded out the scoring for the Runnin' Bulldogs with scores of 88, 91 and 89, carding a final tournament score of 268, +52, placing her in 54th-place overall.
Gardner-Webb's fifth and final competitor Sammy Vass did not finish the tournament after carding a first round 82 on Sunday morning.
Boston College finished in a first-place tie with Charleston Southern with a final team score of 963, +99, while UNC Pembroke took third overall in the team standings with a score of 977, +113.
Gardner-Webb will return to action in two weeks, as the women's golf team will compete at the Low Country Intercollegiate on March 25-26 in Charleston, S.C.
