
GWU's Kim and Gray Record Top-Five Finishes to Lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a Second-Place Team Finish at the Bash at the Beach

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Gardner-Webb junior Daniel Kim and senior Kristopher Gray each finished in the top-five this week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs took second-place overall at the Bash at the Beach hosted by Appalachian State at The Surf and Golf Beach Club's 6,741 yards and par-71 Surf Course in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs carded a first round combined team score of 288, +4, on Sunday to lead in the team standings heading into round two on Monday. After a combined team score of 287, +3, on the second round Monday put the Runnin' Bulldogs in first-place outright heading into day three, GWU carded another team score of 287, +3, on Tuesday to finish the event in second-place at 862, +10, one stroke behind Campbell at 861, +9.
Campbell shot a third round 285, +1, on Tuesday to earn the one stroke win over the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Kim led the Runnin' Bulldogs, as he carded rounds of 69, 69 and 71 to finish the event at 209, -4, and in third-place overall on the individual leaderboard.
Gray also posted a top-five finish, as the senior placed fifth overall with a combined score of 214, +1, posting rounds of 71, 71 and 72 over the three-day event.
Freshman Matt Yelverton turned in rounds of 73, 74 and 72 to finish with a three-round combined score of 219, +6, good enough to place in a tie for 16th-place overall, while sophomore Steven Jones bounced back from a first round 75 on Sunday, to shoot rounds of 73 and 72 over the next two days to finish in a tie for 21st-place overall with a score of 220, +7.
Rounding out the scoring for GWU on the week was redshirt-senior J.J. Regan who posted rounds of 79, 76 and 75, placing him in a tie for 58th-place overall with his combined score of 230, +17.
While, GWU finished just one stroke out of first-place behind Campbell, the Runnin' Bulldogs finished seven strokes ahead of third-place team Radford (869) and eight strokes in front of the fourth-place team Xavier (870).
Gardner-Webb will return to the links this weekend, as the men's golf team will compete at the 2012 Furman Intercollegiate, which will be held from March 16-18th at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.
