
GWU's Kim Post a Record Low Round of 63 on Tuesday; Men's Golf Remains in Sixth-Place Overall at the Big South Championship

Ninety-Six, S.C. - Gardner-Webb junior Daniel Kim posted a Big South Conference Championship Tournament record on Tuesday morning, as he tied the record for the lowest round at 63, -9 under par, to jump into first-place overall after two days of play at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety-Six, S.C.
Kim's 63, which also tied the course record at The Patriot Golf Club, paced the Runnin' Bulldogs, who carded a second round combined team score of 289, +1, on Tuesday, to remain in sixth-place overall in the team standings with a two-round combined team score of 581, +5. The Runnin' Bulldogs remain one stroke behind host school Winthrop University who sits in fifth-place with a combined team score of 580, +4.
Kim, who carded a first round 70, -2 under par, on Monday, posted eight birdies and one eagle on Tuesday, shooting a 31, -5 under par, on the front nine and a 32, -4 under par, on the back nine to finish with a low round of 63, - 9 under par.
With his rounds of 70 and 63, Kim sits in first-place with a combined score of 133, -11 under par, four strokes ahead of Liberty's Robert Karlsson and Coastal Carolina's Charlie Winegardner who are tied for second-place at 137, -7 under par.
Senior Kristopher Gray and freshman Matt Yelverton each posted a second round 75, +3, on Tuesday, as Gray carded three birdies over 18-holes and Yelverton turned in a eagle on the par-5 hole number 13. Gray's two rounds of 75 give him a combined score of 150, +6, and place him in a tie at 31st-place overall, two spots ahead of Yelverton who is in a tie at 33rd-place with his combined score of 151, +7.
GWU's Daley Byles followed up his first round 73 yesterday with a 76, +4, on Tuesday, placing the redshirt-sophomore in a tie at 29th-place overall with a two-day combined score of 149, +5.
Rounding out the GWU competitors was redshirt-senior J.J. Regan, who had two birdies on the front nine, but struggled on the back nine, carding an 83, +11, dropping him down to a tie at 41st-place overall with a combined score of 157, +13.
Top-seeded Liberty holds on to a slight lead in the team standings, as the Flames (555, -21 under par) have a three-stroke lead on Coastal Carolina (558, -18 under par), which carded a team-low round of 237, -15, on Tuesday.
Charleston Southern is in third-place at 564, -12 under par, while Campbell is in fourth-place in the team standings with a combined two round team score of 568, -8 under par.
Gardner-Webb will tee-off at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning for the third and final day of play at the 2012 Big South Men's Golf Championship.
