
GWU Men's Golf Takes Sixth, Junior Daniel Kim Earns All-Conference Honors at the 2012 Big South Men's Golf Championship

Ninety Six, S.C. - Playing around delays and through inclement weather, the Gardner-Webb men's golf team carded a final round of 304, +16, on a rainy and cold Wednesday to finish in sixth-place overall at the 2012 Big South Men's Golf Championship hosted by Winthrop University at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C.
Gardner-Webb recorded team rounds of 292, 289 and 304 to finish in sixth-place overall in the team standings with a combined three-day score of 885, +21.
Junior Daniel Kim turned in a third round 75, +3, on the final day of play to finish with three rounds of 70, 63 and 75, giving him a combined score of 208, -8 under par, placing him in second-place overall for the event. Kim's second-place finish, which included 25 pars, 18 birdies and one eagle over the three-day event, earned him Big South All-Conference honors.
Kim led the tournament field with a par-3 scoring average of 2.75 and in birdies with 18.
Fellow Big South All-Conference member Kristopher Gray rounded out his tournament play with a 76, +4, on the final day of play, giving the senior rounds of 75, 75 and 76 to finish in at tie at 30th-place overall with a combined score of 226, +10. Gray was a model of consistency, as he carded 38 pars for the week.
One stroke and four places behind Gray was fellow teammate Matt Yelverton, as the freshman turned in a score of 76, +4, on Wednesday to finish in a tie at 34th-place overall with his three-day combined score of 227, +11. For the tournament, his first Big South Championship event, Yelverton posted 31 pars, five birdies and one eagle.
Rounding out the scoring for the Runnin' Bulldogs was redshirt-sophomore Daley Byles and redshirt-senior J.J. Regan. Byles, who carded a third round 81, +9, on Wednesday, posted a combined score of 230, +14, to finish in a tie for 38th-place overall, while in his final tournament as a Runnin' Bulldog, Regan carded a score of 77, +5, to finish the three-day event in 42nd with a combined three-round score of 234, +18.
Liberty, the No. 1 seed, won the event, as the Flames posted a team score of 844, -20 under par, defeating Coastal Carolina who took second-place overall with their team score of 854, -10 under par.
Charleston Southern earned a third-place finish with their team score of 859, -5 under par, while Campbell (866, +2) and Winthrop (879, +15) came in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Liberty's Robert Karlsson won the event, as he posted rounds of 69, 68 and 69 to finish in first-place overall with a three-round combined score of 206, -10 under par.
Behind Kim, who took second-place, was Jacobo Pastor of Charleston Southern (210, -6 under par) in third and Sebastian Soderberg of Coastal Carolina (211, -5 under par) in fourth-place overall.
