
GWU Freshman Savannah Burns Tabbed Big South Player of the Week

Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's freshman shortstop Savannah Burns has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Softball Player of the Week for games played April 2-8, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Burns batted .625 with two runs, five RBI, five hits and a home run, while drawing two walks to help the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 2-1 record last week. In game one of the series against Campbell, the freshman recorded her third home run of the season to go along with four RBI in the 8-0 win over the Fighting Camels. In the second game, Burns added another RBI off two hits in the 3-2 victory. She tallied her fifth run of the week in the final game of the series, while getting hit by a pitch for her second walk. She finished the week with a 1.000 slugging percentage, a .727 on-base percentage and eight total bases. Burns also recorded six assists and three putouts over the three-game stretch.
The weekly conference award is the freshman's first of her career, while Burns is the second softball player to receive a conference weekly honor this season, joining redshirt-senior Cindy Boomhower who was tabbed the Big South Pitcher of the Week on March 12th.
