May 15, 2012 | Wrestling
Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb wrestling head coach Dick Wince (Richard Wince) will be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and the State Chapter of North Carolina on May 20th, as part of the Class of 2012 to receive this honor during the Hall of Fame Honors Banquet at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.
On top of the induction into the Hall of Fame, Coach Wince will also receive the "Lifetime Service to Wrestling" Award. The award acknowledges those individuals whose lives have been significant within the wrestling field and have left behind a benchmark and legacy that others can and will follow in regards to areas beyond the mat.
"First, I always thought you had to be a little "famous" to get into a "Hall of Fame," but I guess I was wrong!" commented Coach Wince. "I really am honored, though. I join the company of some men and women whom I know have made really significant contributions to wrestling, both here in N.C. and nationally. It's humbling and more than a little scary to be in their company. Many of these people are personal friends of mine, while others I only know by reputation. They are great, while I am...well...less than great."
