
Quattlebaum named third-team Capital One Academic All-American

Quattlebaum (Boiling Springs, N.C. / Crest HS) forged a 3.83 cumulative GPA in sports management during his three academic years at Gardner-Webb after transferring from NC State. The honor marked the second year in a row Quattlebaum has earned Academic All-America honors. He was a first-team selection in 2011, and is the first GWU baseball player to earn Academic All-America honors twice.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound slugger enjoyed a strong senior season at the plate again for the Runnin' Bulldogs, batting .302 with 12 doubles, a team-high 48 RBI and a career-high 10 home runs.
Quattlebaum's efforts helped Gardner-Webb post a 32-28 overall record - the team's second 30-win season in as many years - and a spot in the Big South Tournament semifinals. Quattlebaum belted three home runs and drove in six runs in four games for the 'Dogs in the tournament, earning All-Tournament honors for his power surge. He slugged .813 for the event, which included a pair of home runs in an 11-0 win over Radford in an elimination game.
As a junior, Quattlebaum batted .320 with six home runs, 25 doubles and a career-high 49 RBI. He ranked among the nation's leaders in doubles per game and earned Big South Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. He helped Gardner-Webb advance to the 2011 Big South Conference Tournament championship game in Lexington, Va.
Quattlebaum is also a two-time member of the Big South Conference baseball All-Academic Team.
For his two-year career in Boiling Springs, Quattlebaum batted .311 with 72 runs scored, 138 hits, 37 doubles, 16 home runs and 97 RBI. His doubles total ranks 10th in school history for a career.
