
Gardner-Webb Women's Golf Leads After Opening Round of Terrier Intercollegiate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Gardner-Webb women's
golf team leads after the opening round of play at the Terrier
Intercollegiate with a score of 294, +6, at the par-72 5,972 yard
Country Club of Spartanburg.
Gardner-Webb freshman Mary Katherine Donovan fired an opening round
68, -4 under par, to set a new opening round 18-hole record and
tournament 18-hole record.
The Runnin' Bulldogs' team score of 294, +6, also set a new record
for the lowest team score after the opening 18-holes of play.
Behind Donovan's 68, which has her in first-place overall heading into the second and final round on Tuesday, was senior Meghan Allum who carded a first round 72, even par, placing her in a tie for third-place overall.
Fellow seniors Lauren Smith and Sammy Vass each posted rounds of 77, +5, to sit in a tie at 21st-place overall, while senior Hannah Hellyer turned in a first round 82, +10, on Monday, to finish day one in a tie for 50th-place overall.
Junior Pilar Morgan, who is playing as an individual for the event, carded a first round 80, +8, on Monday.
UNC Wilmington follows with a 296, while UNC Pembroke sits in
third at 301. Mercer, 304, and Elon, 308, round out of the top-five
teams.
The tournament will resume with the final 18 holes Tuesday morning
with a shotgun start at 9:30 p.m.
