GWU Men's Golf Finishes in a Tie for 10th at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate

Chapel Hill, N.C. - In a very challenging field that saw teams such as North Carolina, Duke, Notre Dame, Maryland, Boston College, North Carolina State, Charlotte and East Carolina, the Gardner-Webb men's golf team finished in a tie for 10th-place overall in the team standings at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate hosted by the University of North Carolina at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
GWU carded team rounds of 300, 293 and 299 to finish the two-day and three-round event with a combined team score of 892, +28.
The Runnin' Bulldogs finished in tie with the VCU Rams in 10th-place overall and ahead of Maryland, UNC Greensboro and Furman in the 14-team field.
Senior and reigning Big South Conference Co-Men's Golfer of the Week Daniel Kim paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with rounds of 73, 70 and 76 to finish in a tie at 21st-place overall with a combined three-round score of 219, +3. Kim's second round 70, -2 under par, would prove to be the lowest single-round score of the tournament for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Right behind Kim, was fellow Canadian and teammate Daley Byles, as the redshirt-junior bounced back from a first round 78, +6, to post rounds of 74 and 71 to finish in a tie for 34th-place overall at 223, +7, for the tournament.
Gardner-Webb sophomore Matt Yelverton and freshman Clement Kurniawan each posted three-round combined scores of 227, +11, to finish in a tie for 58th-place overall, while junior Steven Jones carded a two-day score of 234, +1, to place in a tie at 73rd overall.
The Duke Blue Devils won the event, posting a three-round combined team score of 856, -8 under par, finishing six strokes ahead of host North Carolina, who took second-place with a score of 862, -2 under par.
Albin Choi of North Carolina State took medal honors overall, as he carded rounds of 66, 71 and 68 to finish atop of the leaderboard at 205, -11 under par.
The GWU men's golf team will have a month off before they return to competition, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will next compete at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State on October 15-16th in Morganton, N.C.
