GWU Men's Soccer to Open Up Conference Play at Longwood on Saturday Night

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team will kick-off its 2012 Big South Conference season this Saturday night, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will travel to Farmville, Va. to take on the Longwood Lancers at 7 p.m. at the Athletics Complex.
GWU, who is coming off two straight overtime losses in which the Runnin' Bulldogs were in the match from start to finish, is still searching for that first elusive win of the 2012 season having dropped each of its first six contests.
GWU's 2012 start is the worst start to a season for the Runnin' Bulldogs, since the 2007 team started the season off at 0-8-1 before posting its first win.
Gardner-Webb is 3-3-0 versus the Lancers of Longwood all-time, as the two teams have not met on the pitch since back in 2004. Gardner-Webb has won each of the last three meetings versus the Lancers, after dropping the first three contests between these two schools.
After starting the season at 0-4, the Lancers won two straight conference bouts over UNC Asheville and VMI, before dropping each of its last two matches to fall to 2-6 overall on the season.
The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team is 19-12-2 overall in its four years in the Big South Conference. In fact, GWU has posted a winning record in conference play in each of its four seasons as a Big South Conference member.
GWU is 2-2 in its four Big South Conference opening matches, as the Runnin' Bulldogs have lost each of its last two Big South Conference season openers after winning its first two back in 2008 and 2009.
The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start time on Saturday night in Farmville, Va.
