Runnin' Bulldogs Win the Highlander Invitational at Draper Valley

Radford, Va. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team had four different golfers place in the top-10 overall, as the Runnin' Bulldogs took first-place overall in the team standings at the Highlander Invitational Sunday afternoon at the par-72, 6,168-yards Draper Valley Golf Club in Radford, Va.
The Gardner-Webb women's golf team carded low rounds of 303 and 296 on Sunday to take first-place overall with a combined team score of 599, +23.
Gardner-Webb finished nine strokes ahead of Winthrop University, who took second-place overall at 608, +32, and 13 strokes in front of host Radford, who finished in third with a team score of 612, +36.

Finishing in a tie at sixth-place overall was fellow seniors Meghan Allum and Lauren Smith, as the two turned in two-round combined scores of 151, +7. Allum bounced back from a first round 80, +8, to shoot a second round 71, -1 under par, to earn her top-10 finish, while Smith recorded rounds of 74 and 77 to post her score of 151.
Senior Sammy Vass earned a top-10 finish with her consistent play on Sunday, as she totaled back-to-back rounds of 76, +4, to finish in 10th-place overall with a two-round combined score of 152, +8, for the day.
Freshman Mary Katherine Donovan, who won the first-ever collegiate event she played in earlier this fall season, carded rounds of 79 and 83 to finish in a tie for 23rd-place overall with a combined score of 162, +18.
Gardner-Webb's Allum led the tournament field with 25 pars overall on the day, while Hellyer was second in the field with six birdies overall.
Playing as individuals for the one-day event, junior Pilar Morgan posted shot rounds of 78 and 77 to finish in a tie for 14th-place overall at 155, +9, while freshman newcomer Tessy Tuschen carded rounds of 86 and 80 to finish in a tie for 30th-place overall with her combined score of 166, +22.
The Gardner-Webb women's golf team will next be in action on October 1-2, as the lady golfers will compete at the UNCG/Starmount Classic hosted by UNC Greensboro in Greensboro, N.C.
