
GWU Men's Golf Set for Donald Ross Intercollegiate on October 14-15th

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team will return to competition next week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will take part in the Donald Ross Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, October 14-15th, in Morganton, N.C.
Appalachian State will host the two-day, 54-hole event at the Mimosa Hills Golf & Country golf course designed by Donald Ross in Morganton, N.C. which includes a 15 team field made up of Appalachian State, Bethune-Cookman, Bucknell, Davidson, Elon, Gardner-Webb, High Point, James Madison, Longwood, Presbyterian, Samford, Stetson, Tennessee State, Wake Forest and Wofford.
The GWU men's golf team is coming off a first-place finish at The Patriot Intercollegiate/Conference Preview 18-hole event last Saturday at The Patriot at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C.
Looking for another strong team showing this week, head coach Tee Burton's lineup includes Matt Yelverton, Blake Maum, Vincent Blanchette, Elki Kow and Daley Byles, while senior Steven Jones and sophomore Clement Kurniawan will compete as individuals.
Yelverton, Maum and Blanchette are all coming off sub-par rounds at The Patriot Intercollegiate/Conference Preview last week, as Yelverton finished tied for fourth with a round of 71, -1 under par, two strokes behind Blanchette who placed in a tie for second with a score of 69, -3 under par. Maum posted his first career intercollegiate win, as his 68, -4 under par, took first-place overall at the 18-hole event.
Yelverton has posted three top-15 finishes thus far this fall season and has carded three sub-par rounds to sit with a stroke average of 72.67 on the year.
Coming off his best performance to date in his first fall season at GWU, Maum has carded rounds of 75, 75 and 68 over his last three rounds of play and will look to continue his hot hand this week, while Blanchette, another first-year Runnin' Bulldog golfer, has carded back-to-back rounds of 69 over his last two rounds of play and has finished in the top-six in each of his first two tournaments this fall season.
Kow, who is competing in his fourth tournament of the this fall slate, has posted a stroke average of 73.5 thus far having turned in rounds of 71, 70 and 73 over his last three rounds of play.
Byles, who did not play for GWU last week at The Patriot Intercollegiate/Conference Preview, will also be playing in his fourth tournament thus far this season and his coming off a 12th-place showing at the Myrtle Beach National Intercollegiate with rounds of 73 and 72 for a combined 36-hole score of 145, +1.
Veterans Jones and Kurniawan will both compete as individuals at the 54-hole event, as Jones has posted a low round of 71, -1 under par, on the season, while Kurniawan has registered three sub-par rounds on the year and his playing in his fifth event of the fall season.
At last year's event, the Runnin' Bulldogs battled inclement weather all three rounds to card a team score of 906, +66, and finish in 16th-place overall.
The two-day event will begin on Monday morning, October 14th, with two rounds of play, and will conclude on Tuesday afternoon, October 15th.
