N.C. - Gardner-Webb tight end Mike
Estes was tabbed by College Football Performance Awards (CFPA)
as honorable mention FCS Tight End of the Week for the third week
in a row.
Estes
(Raleigh, N.C. / Athens Drive HS) continues to make plays as a
redshirt freshman, and continued his recent run with a pair of
catches for 45 yards at #6/8 Coastal Carolina Saturday
night.
Five
of Estes' last six catches have gone for first downs and he has
caught 13 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown this season
- ranking second in the league in tight end receptions and first in
yardage gained. Since moving into more regular duty on September
21, Estes has caught 11 of his 13 passes.
The
6-foot-4, 230-pounder leads Gardner-Webb with 17.2 yards per catch
this season. He has earned CFPA honorable mention FCS Tight End of
the Week accolades in each of the past three weeks.
Gardner-Webb
(4-2, 0-1 Big South) will enjoy a much-needed open date before
returning to action on Saturday, October 26, to host Liberty at
1:30 pm in Ernest W. Spangler Stadium.
The
Runnin' Bulldogs have been heavily hampered by injuries for the
past five quarters, and were without five starters or key reserves
in Conway Saturday night.
