Estes Honored By College Football Performance Awards For Third Time

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Gardner-Webb tight end Mike Estes was tabbed by College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) as honorable mention FCS Tight End of the Week for the third week in a row.

Estes (Raleigh, N.C. / Athens Drive HS) continues to make plays as a redshirt freshman, and continued his recent run with a pair of catches for 45 yards at #6/8 Coastal Carolina Saturday night.

Five of Estes' last six catches have gone for first downs and he has caught 13 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown this season - ranking second in the league in tight end receptions and first in yardage gained. Since moving into more regular duty on September 21, Estes has caught 11 of his 13 passes.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder leads Gardner-Webb with 17.2 yards per catch this season. He has earned CFPA honorable mention FCS Tight End of the Week accolades in each of the past three weeks.

Gardner-Webb (4-2, 0-1 Big South) will enjoy a much-needed open date before returning to action on Saturday, October 26, to host Liberty at 1:30 pm in Ernest W. Spangler Stadium.

The Runnin' Bulldogs have been heavily hampered by injuries for the past five quarters, and were without five starters or key reserves in Conway Saturday night.
