
GWU Volleyball to Take On In-State Foes N.C. A&T and UNC Asheville This Week

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs will remain in the state of North Carolina this week, as the Gardner-Webb volleyball team will take on in-state foes North Carolina A&T and UNC Asheville in volleyball action.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will open up the week with its final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday night, October 15th, at 6 p.m. at North Carolina A&T, before jumping back into Big South Conference play at home on Friday night, October 18th, at 7 p.m. against UNC Asheville in Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb will be hosting its annual Dig Pink match on Friday night versus the Asheville Bulldogs and encourage all fans to wear pink to the match in support of Breast Cancer Awareness and Research.
The Runnin' Bulldogs went 2-1 overall last week to move to 11-11 overall and 3-2 in Big South play.
GWU's Anna Pashkova was tabbed the Big South Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and the second time in her career on October 14th, as she led the Runnin' Bulldogs in digs in all three matches for GWU last week, while freshman outside hitter Brianna Starr was named the Crons Brand Big South Volleyball Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career as she posted a team-high 41 kills and 43 points on the week.
GWU, who is 5-1 so far in the month of October with wins over South Carolina State, Liberty, Radford, Davidson and Presbyterian, suffered its first home loss of the season (5-1) on Saturday afternoon to the Winthrop Lady Eagles.
Gardner-Webb's 11 wins thus far this season is the most in a single season for the Runnin' Bulldogs since posting 12 wins overall in 2009, while Gardner-Webb's three 3-2 five-set victories on the season ties the most five-set wins that the Runnin' Bulldogs have had in a single year in its NCAA Division I history (2008, 2007, 2005, 2001).
In fact, all three of GWU's three Big South Conference wins this season has come in five-set victories.
North Carolina A&T enters play this week at 4-18 overall and 3-2 in MEAC play having posted back-to-back wins over S.C. State and Savannah State.
The Lady Aggies, who are 3-5 overall this season at home in Moore Gymnasium, are led by the duo of Aleena McDaniel and Brooke Stamnes who have posted 193 and 177 kills each, respectively.
The Bulldogs of UNC Asheville, who will host N.C. A&T on Thursday night at the Justice Center, enters play this week at 12-8 overall and 3-2 in the Big South.
Asheville is only 2-4 in true road matches with both of its two conference losses coming on the road at Liberty and at Radford.
The Bulldogs, who have won its last two matches, have two players in Anna Moore and Christine Lakatos who have over 200 kills apiece on the year.
