Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's women's soccer team hits the stretch run of the 2013 regular season this coming week as the Runnin' Bulldogs are set to compete in key Big South matches versus Presbyterian (Wednesday, October 23) and at Charleston Southern (Saturday, October 26).
GWU (3-12-1, 1-7 Big South) plays two of its remaining three Big South contests within the friendly confines of Greene-Harbison Field, facing Presbyterian this Wednesday prior to closing the regular season at home versus UNC Asheville on Tuesday, October 29.
The Runnin' Bulldogs open the three-game stretch run with a match against Presbyterian (7-7, 4-4 Big South) in which GWU will look for continued improvement from a promising offensive turnaround experienced in the last two matches. After scoring two goals in its first six Big South matches combined, Gardner-Webb put up two goals against the League's best defense, Radford, in a narrow 3-2 loss on the road. Shelby Hooe (Mechanicsville, Va.) scored twice in that match, once on a penalty kick and once off an assist from Meagan Reynolds (Kings Mountain, N.C.).
GWU followed up that performance by jumping on top of Liberty at home in its most recent match. The Flames, who have posted ten shutouts this season, scored three unanswered goals to come away with a 3-1 victory despite Brandi Arey's (Huntersville, N.C.) 19th minute goal off a Reynolds assist.
Wednesday's match versus Presbyterian is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start time at Greene-Harbison Field. Gardner-Webb match at Charleston Southern (6-9-1, 3-5 Big South) is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night.
