
Gardner-Webb Wrestling Picked Fourth in SoCon Preseason Poll; Mosley Earns Preseason All-Conference Honors

Spartanburg, S.C. - In their third season as an associate member in the Southern Conference, the Gardner-Webb wrestling team was picked fourth in the 2013-14 Southern Conference Wrestling Preseason Coaches Poll, while redshirt-freshman Ryan Mosley claimed a preseason all-conference nod at 141 pounds.
The Runnin' Bulldogs received 28 points overall in the poll.
Last season the Runnin' Bulldogs posted its first-ever Southern Conference Champion in Hunter Gamble at 174 pounds, while GWU has numerous other grapplers compete in the finals and third-place matches across the board.
Mosley, who redshirted last season, competed unattached at 141 pounds in a number of open events and posted an overall record of 21-10 on the year. The Georgia native took second-place overall at The Citadel Open and at the Newberry Open and also registered six fall victories on the season.
Mosley, who recorded a 5-1 win over #15 Justin LaValle of Old Dominion, earned All-American honors with a seventh-place finish at the 2013 ASICS (FILA) Junior Greco-Roman National Championships at 66 KG in Las Vegas in April. He also went 4-2 on the day at 66 KG at the 2013 ASICS (FILA) Junior Freestyle National Championships.
The Southern Conference's eight wrestling coaches have picked defending regular-season and tournament champion Chattanooga to win the league title again in 2013-14. The coaches also selected a 10-member preseason all-conference team.
Chattanooga picked up four-first place votes and 46 total points to top second-place Appalachian State by four points. The Mocs will be seeking their ninth regular-season and tournament titles in the last 10 years.
The Mountaineers, who claimed 42 points and two first-place votes to edge The Citadel for second in the poll, while The Citadel picked up the remaining two first-place votes and totaled 41 points in the poll.
Campbell was right behind the Runnin' Bulldogs with 27 points, while SIUE was sixth with 19 points. Davidson was seventh with 12 points, while VMI rounded out the poll with nine points.
The 2013-14 wrestling season gets under way on Nov. 2, with The Citadel and Gardner-Webb in action. Campbell, Davidson and VMI all compete the following day.
