Boiling Springs, N.C. - For his exceptional performance last week in GWU's two conference wins, Gardner-Webb midfielder Ali Al-Gashamy was named the Madness Men's Soccer Big South Player of the Week by College Sports Madness (www.collegesportsmadness.com).
GWU's Al-Gashamy helped to extend the Runnin' Bulldogs' current winning streak to four straight matches, all of which have come in Big South Conference play, as he totaled six points on two goals and two assists last week. In GWU's 5-0 rout of UNC Asheville at home on Wednesday night, the sophomore picked up an assist on the home team's second goal of the match in the 16th minute and then added a second assist on the Runnin' Bulldogs' fourth goal of the match in the 59th minute. He then concluded his superb performance with an unassisted goal on a chip shot over the head of the Asheville goalkeeper in the 62nd minute to end the scoring for the match. He then tallied a goal in the 88th minute to secure the 2-0 road win over the Fighting Camels of Campbell on Saturday afternoon.
Overall, Al-Gashamy had a part in four of GWU's seven goals on the week and he has scored a goal in each of GWU's last four matches.
This marks the second straight week in which the Runnin' Bulldogs have claimed the Madness Men's Soccer Big South Player of the Week Award, as fellow teammate Denzel Clarke received the award just one week ago.
