Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team will compete against three other Big South schools in Campbell, High Point and Radford at The Patriot Intercollegiate held at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C. this Saturday, October 5th.
The one-day quad match will be held at the home of the 2014 Big South Men's Golf Championship, the par 72, 7,045 yards Patriot Course designed by Davis Love III, at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor.
With the scoring format being different, as the team scores include all six players for each team, the Runnin' Bulldogs' squad lineup will consist of Matt Yelverton, Blake Maum, Clement Kurniawan, Elki Kow, Vincent Blanchette and Chris Jones.
Yelverton, who is coming off a 12th-place finish with rounds of 70 and 75 at the Myrtle Beach National Intercollegiate last time out, has carded two sub-par rounds of 70 on the fall season and has posted a team-best stroke average of 72.88 so far on the year.
Maum, who is playing in his third straight event for head coach Tee Burton and the Runnin' Bulldogs, shot back-to-back rounds of 75 to finish with a two-round combined score of 150, +6, last time out at the Myrtle Beach National Intercollegiate. The freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn. has also posted two rounds of 76 to sit with a stroke average of 76.4 overall heading into play on Saturday afternoon.
Kurniawan and Kow, who are both coming off solid performances two weeks ago at the Myrtle Beach National Intercollegiate, will both compete for GWU this Saturday. Kurniawan, who has posted two top-12 finishes this season, has turned in three sub-par rounds this year, including a 70, -2 under par, in his final round of play last time out. Kow, who was tabbed the Co-Choice Hotels Big South Conference Men's Golfer of the Week two weeks ago, shot back-to-back rounds of 71 and 70 to finish tied for second overall at the Myrtle Beach National Intercollegiate back on September 23-24th.
Like Kow, Blanchette is coming off a top-10 finish at the Myrtle Beach National Intercollegiate, in which he posted rounds of 73 and 69 to finish in sixth-place overall with a combined 36-hole score of 142, -2 under par, in his first ever intercollegiate event.
Jones, a redshirt-freshman from Charlotte, N.C., will be making his debut for the Runnin' Bulldogs this Saturday at The Patriot Intercollegiate.
Yelverton is the most experienced in terms of having played at The Patriot for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as the junior has played seven rounds over the last two years at the course. He carded rounds of 76, 75 and 74 to finish in a tie for ninth-place last year at the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship after posting a round of 76 at the GWU/High Point Duals in the fall of 2012. Yelverton also turned in rounds of 76, 75 and 76 for a three-day combined sore of 227, +11, at the Patriot Golf Course back at the 2012 Big South Men's Golf Championship.
Both Kow and Kurniawan have also played the course, as Kow shot rounds of 80, 75 and 77 to finish with a 54-hole score of 232, +16, at last year's Big South Championship, while Kurniawan recorded a round of 81, +9, at the 2012 GWU/High Point Duals last fall.
The one-day, 18-hole event, will tee off on Saturday at noon with a shotgun start. The women's team will also be competing at the course as well.
