
Freshman Blake Maum and Gardner-Webb Both Take First-Place Overall at The Patriot Intercollegiate/Conference Preview

Ninety Six, S.C. - Gardner-Webb freshman Blake Maum carded a low round 68, -4 under par, to take first-place overall and help lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a first-place team finish at The Patriot Intercollegiate/Conference Preview held at the par-72, 7,045 yards Patriot Course at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C.
The one-day, 18-hole event, included four Big South Conference schools in Campbell, High Point, Gardner-Webb and Radford.
Gardner-Webb turned in a team score 281, -7 under par, to take first-place overall in the team standings, finishing six strokes ahead of Campbell who took second-place with their team score of 287, -1 under par.
Behind Maum's low round of 68, - 4 under par, a career-best score for the freshman in his first year at GWU, fellow newcomer Vincent Blanchette carded a round of 69, -3 under par, to place in a tie for second-place overall.
Junior Matt Yelverton shot a round of 71, -1 under par, to finish in a tie for fourth overall, while sophomore Elki Kow finished out the scoring for the Runnin' Bulldogs with a round of 73, +1, good enough for an 11th-place finish.
Fellow sophomore Clement Kurniawan finished in 21st-place overall with his score of 81, +9, while redshirt-freshman Chris Jones, who played as an individual, turned in a round of 84, +12, to place in 23rd overall.
Gardner-Webb will return to the links on October 14-15th, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State at the Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C.
