
'Dogs Roll at Home, 92-51, over Allen on Tuesday Night

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Naji Hibbert scored 15 points to lead six Runnin' Bulldogs in double digit scoring, and Gardner-Webb shot 53% from the field to roll past Allen (S.C.) University 92-51 at Paul Porter Arena on Tuesday night.
Point man Tyler Strange added an efficient 13 points on 4-6 shooting, Isaiah Ivey added 12 points including 3-5 from three-point land, and Josh Castellanos scored 10 points while dishing 6 assists on the night.
Gardner-Webb stormed out to a 17-0 lead to open the game, getting a layup from Hibbert with 14:23 to play in the 1st half. Hibbert added a 3-pointer to make it 20-2 in favor of the Runnin' Bulldogs at the 13:44 mark to help put the game away early.
A rebound by Logan Stumpf, one of his team-high 5 boards on the night, led to free throws by Tyrell Nelson, who finished the night with 8 points while going 2-5 from the field.
Stumpf knocked down a 3-pointer with 10:08 to go in the 1st half, netting three of his ten points to put Gardner-Webb up 33-6.
Three-pointers by Strange and Ivey, both off of assists from Hibbert, pushed the laed to 41-12 at the 5:01 mark. GWU showed off its range Tuesday night, as Ivey and company combined to knock down 10 of its 16 three-point attempts in the 1st half.
One of those 3's, a deep shot by Hibbert, gave GWU a 52-23 lead going into the break. The 'dogs would open the 2nd half as it did the 1st, rattling off an 8-2 run capped by two Jerome Hill free throws at the 16:29 mark.
Starting with two free throws from Onzie Branch with 13:25 left in the game, GWU went on a 10-4 spurt capped by two made free throws by Castellanos. Gardner-Webb finished the 2nd half 18-22 (81.8%) from the charity stripe, and 26-39 (66.7%) overall.
With 5:01 left, Adam Sweeney cashed in on both his free throw attempts after a technical foul was called on Allen, pushing GWU's lead to 82-39. The exclamation point came a minute later when Strange found Stumpf on an alley-oop that ignited the Paul Porter Arena crowd on-hand Tuesday night.
In addition to its efficient field goal percentage, Gardner-Webb was also effective taking care of the basketball, posting a 20-9 assist-turnover ratio for the game.
The Runnin' Bulldogs take their 2-2 record to Columbia, Mo. to face SEC foe Missouri on November 23. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
