BOILING
SPRINGS - Rick
Reeves' Gardner-Webb women's squad will take its 4-0 record on
the road for the first time Monday night, traveling to take on NC
Central at 6:00 pm in Durham.
The
Runnin' Bulldogs (4-0) have played well in all phases to start the
season in Paul Porter Arena, averaging 77.5 points and out
rebounding its four opponents by an average of 13.8 boards per game
- and outscoring them by an average of 20.8 points.
Solid
shooting (44.2 percent overall / 34.7 percent from 3-point range)
has helped and the senior duo of Catrina
Green at center (16.3 ppg, 11.0 rig) and Jasmine
Dale at guard (11.0 ppg) has powered the early
surge.
Depth
has been a hallmark through four games, however, with Reeves'
current team capable of going 12 deep with quality. Seven different
players average at least 6.8 points per game.
Olivia
Parker (9.8 ppg, 7.8 rpg) has provided a huge boost off the
bench, posting a pair of double-doubles so far. Senior forward Tabby
Koerner has started all four games, and her rebounding remains
a strength.
Mayhana
Dunovant's play at point guard has been exceptional, with 26
assists and nine steals through four starts. She narrowly missed a
double-double herself in the Kennesaw State win, dishing off eight
assists.
Candance
Brown's overall floor game is strong as usual, forward Jessica
Heilig (6.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg) continues to show great promise and
top wing reserves Kiera
Currie and Lana
Doran have made shots from the perimeter when
needed.
Gardner-Webb
faces a tough test at NC Central (2-2), which has already posted a
2-1 mark against Big South teams with wins over Presbyterian
(55-44) and UNC Asheville (76-65) - with each of those wins coming
on the road.
Coastal
Carolina topped the Eagles 66-65 in Durham, NC Central's lone home
game so far this season. Scoring has come from Jessica Freeman
(15.5 ppg), Khyra Connerly (11.0 ppg) and Racquel Davis (11.0 ppg)
- with that trio combining for nearly 70 percent of the Eagles'
scoring so far this season.
Gardner-Webb
captured a 54-32 win over Central last December in Boiling Springs,
getting 13 points from Brown, 11 points from Dale and 10 from
Doran. The Runnin' Bulldogs have won the last five in the series,
dating back to 2008.
Opening
tip for Monday's game is set for 6:00 pm in Durham.
