Gardner-Webb Sophomore Shelby Hooe Receives Big South Women's Soccer Honors

Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb sophomore forward Shelby Hooe received multiple Big South women's soccer honors, as the League released its 2013 All-Conference awards Monday evening.
Hooe (Mechanicsville, Va.) was one of five players named to the 2013 All-Conference Honorable Mention listing released by the Big South on Monday. The second-year Runnin' Bulldog was joined on the Honorable Mention list by Longwood MF Alana Mackey, Winthrop MF Okina Crawley, and Radford's Sahar Aflaki and Caitlin Annear.
On the pitch this season, Hooe recorded single-season career highs in goals (7), assists (4), and total points (18). Hooe led GWU in goals and total points in 2013, categories in which she also led the Runnin' Bulldogs in 2012 as a freshman.
Highlights of Hooe's impressive play as a front-runner for head coach Kevin Mounce's squad this year include assisting on the game-winning goal, scored by Tori James, in the 3-0 home win over Chattanooga as well as netting two goals at two-time defending Big South Tournament champion Radford, who had only given up one goal in six Big South matches prior to faxing Gardner-Webb.
Hooe's efforts on the field and in the classroom were further rewarded on Monday when the sophomore forward was named to the 2013 Big South Women's Soccer All-Academic Team. Hooe currently boasts a 4.0 cumulative GPA with a major in Chemistry.
