GWU's Starr and Montour Earn Big South Volleyball Weekly Honors

Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb outside hitter Brianna Starr has been selected as the Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played Oct. 28-Nov. 3, while fellow teammate Tyra Montour was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week, the League announced today.
Starr recorded 23 kills, 2.88 kills per set, 24 digs and 3.0 digs per set for the Runnin' Bulldogs last week. In a 3-1 victory over Campbell, she registered a double-double with 16 kills and 14 digs. Starr followed that up with 10 digs and seven kills against High Point. The award is her second Crons Brand Freshman of the Week honor this season.
Montour led the defensive efforts for Gardner-Webb last week with 17 blocks -- including 10 solo and 2.12 blocks per set. She recorded nine blocks, including five solo efforts in the win over the Fighting Camels. Against High Point, she tallied eight blocks and five solo blocks in the four-set setback. The award is Montour's first Big South weekly honor.
