
Kurniawan Takes Second, as GWU Places in a Tie for Fifth-Place at the 2013 Hummingbird Intercollegiate

Sapphire, N.C. - Sophomore Clement Kurniawan posted a second-place finish, as the Runnin' Bulldogs finished tied for fifth-place overall at the 2013 Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina at the par 71, 6,767-yards, Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Sapphire Valley, N.C.
Gardner-Webb finished in a tie for fifth-place overall with rounds of 298, 285, and 287 and a combined score of 870, +18.
Kurniawan paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with rounds of 69, 66 and 75, as he took second-place overall with a 54-hole combined score of 210, -3 under par. The sophomore, who carded a career-low 66, -5 under par, on Monday, posted 10 birdies over his three rounds of play.
Behind Kurniawan was redshirt-senior Daley Byles, who finished in a tie for 17th-place overall, while freshman Vincent Blanchette placed in a tie for 21st-place overall. Byles carded rounds of 75, 73 and 71 to turn in a combined score of 219, +6, finishing one stroke ahead of Blanchette and his 54-hole score of 220, +7. Byles registered nine birdies, while Blanchette tallied 10 birdies and an eagle over his three rounds of play.
Rounded out the scoring for GWU over the three-day event was junior Matt Yelverton and freshman Blake Maum. Yelverton recorded three straight rounds of 74, +3, to finish in a tie for 30th overall with a combine score of 222, +9, while Maum improved his score each day with his scores of 80, 77 and 73 to finish in a tie for 45th overall with a 54-hole score of 230, +17. Yelverton totaled eight birdies and an eagle, while Maum turned in five birdies for the tournament.
Wofford College took first-place honors in the team standings as the Terriers carded rounds of 294, 280 and 286 to finish the three-round event with a combined team score of 860, +8.
Appalachian State (864, +12), Belmont (866, +14) and Tennessee Tech (869, +17) rounded out the top-four teams, while GWU finished tied for fifth with the host institution Western Carolina (870, +18).
Western Carolina's J.T. Poston finished first-place overall, as he carded rounds of 69, 68 and 67 to finish with a tournament record low 54-hole score of 204, -9 under par.
The three-day event was the final tournament of the 2013 fall season for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
