Quartet Of GWU Wrestlers Finish In Top-4 Sunday At Cradle Gear Invitational

Gardner-Webb finished fifth in the team scoring with 48.0 points, with Robbie Golde (133 pounds), Brett Stein (174 pounds) and Justin Kozera (285 pounds) each finishing fourth to aide Trott's dominant effort on the mats.
Trott blistered through the field at 165 pounds, pinning Bucknell's Robert Schlitt to open his day, posting a tech fall win over Buffalo's Tyler Rill (18-2) and advancing to the finals with a major decision win over Michigan State's Troy Lamson (16-8). He defeated Michigan State's Bobby Nash, 9-6, to bring home the title.
Golde won his opening match, dropped his second, then ran off three victories in a row before losing a hard-fought decision in the third-place bout to Michigan State's Garth Yenter (7-4). Stein won his first two matches of the day and bounced back from a third-round loss to pin Lock Haven's Dylan Caprio in 4:39. He fell in the third-place match to Binghamton's Jack McKeever by a tight 6-4 margin.
Kozera won three individual bouts in a row after dropping a narrow opener to Chris Nash of Michigan State (6-4), but lost to Franklin & Marshall's Alexander Henry by a 3-1 count in the third-place match.
Gardner-Webb will not hit the mats again until Sunday, January 5, at George Mason. The team's will open its home schedule on Monday, January 13 - hosting SoCon rival Appalachian State at 7:00 in Paul Porter Arena.
