Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team will tee-off its 2013 spring schedule next week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete at the High Point University Classic on Feb. 25-26th at the Willow Creek Golf Course at the High Point Country Club in High Point, N.C.
The two-day tournament, which is the inaugural event, features a host of local teams including Elon, Appalachian State, Western Carolina, Morehead State, Wake Forest, Radford and Winthrop, as well as the Panthers and the Runnin' Bulldogs.
This season, Gardner-Webb is led by a quartet of seniors in Hannah Hellyer, Lauren Smith, Meghan Allum and Sammy Vass, while junior Pilar Morgan and a trio of freshmen in Mary Katherine Donovan, Tessy Tuschen and Julia Henderson will all look to compete for playing time throughout the year.
Hellyer, a two-time Big South All-Conference, and Smith, a 2011 Big South All-Conference honoree, headline a team that posted five top-10 finishes in the 2012 fall season, including taking first-place overall in the team standings at the Highlander Invitational on September 23rd and finishing in second-place at both the Terrier Intercollegiate on September 10-11th and at the Winthrop Intercollegiate on October 6-7th.
Donovan is looking to continue her strong start to her career at GWU, as she looks to add to her two first-place finishes from the 2012 fall season with wins at the Terrier Intercollegiate and the GWU vs. High Point Duals.
On top of Donovan's strong play, Allum recorded three top-10 finishes in the fall season, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the Winthrop Intercollegiate, while Hellyer matched her classmates mark with three top-10 finishes of her own, headlined by a second-place finish at the Highlander Invitational.
The GWU lady golfers will tee-off on Monday morning, February 25th, and then wrap up the second and final round of play on Tuesday afternoon, February 26th.
