GWU Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at Rain Shortened HPU Classic

High Point, N.C. - With the second and final round of the High Point University Classic at the par-72, 6,006 yard Willow Creek Golf Course at the High Point Country Club that was scheduled for Tuesday canceled due to heavy rain the tournament was concluded after one round of play on Monday with the Gardner-Webb women's golf team in fourth-place overall with a combined team score of 319, +31.
The Runnin' Bulldogs' first round score of 319, +31, was 11 strokes behind the winner Morehead State, who carded a low round team score of 308, +20, and eight strokes behind second-place Elon and the Phoenix' score of 311, +23.
GWU senior Meghan Allum led the Runnin' Bulldogs with a first round 78, +6, to finish in a tie for 10th-place overall, while junior Pilar Morgan was right on her heels with a 79, +7, on Monday to place in a tie for 14th overall.
Fellow seniors Lauren Smith and Sammy Vass both finished in a tie at 20th-place overall with their identical first round scores of 81, +9, while Hannah Hellyer rounded out the competitors for Gardner-Webb with an 86, +14, to put her in a tie for 35th-place overall.
Playing as an individual, freshman Mary Katherine Donovan carded a first round 79, +7, to finish in a tie along with Morgan for 14th-place overall.
Gardner-Webb will return to competition in three weeks, when the lady golfers will tee-off at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary University at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.
