GWU Men's Golf Finishes Tied for Seventh at the 2013 General Hackler Championship

Murrells Inlet, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team finished in a tie for seventh-place overall in the team standings with a two-day score of 924, +60, at the highly competitive 2013 General Hackler Championship hosted by Coastal Carolina University at the TPC of Myrtle Beach Course in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs finished with team rounds of 315, 308 and 301 to finish the three-round event with a score of 924, +60, to finish in a tie at seventh-place overall in the team standings with Florida Gulf Coast.
GWU finished ahead of Texas - El Paso (929), Middle Tennessee State (931) and Charleston Southern (937).
Redshirt-junior Daley Byles paced the Runnin' Bulldog golfers with rounds of 75, 75 and 78 to finish in a tie at 25th-place overall with his three-round combined score of 228, +12. Byles recorded an eagle and 10 birdies over the 54-hole event.
GWU sophomore Matt Yelverton improved his score each and every round over the two-day event, bouncing back from a first round 81 to shoot a 78 and 74 over the final two rounds to finish with a combined score of 233, +17, good enough to place in a tie at 40th-place overall.
Right on Yelverton's heels were fellow teammates Elki Kow and Daniel Kim, as Kow finished in a tie for 43rd-place with rounds of 83, 77 and 75 to post a three-round combined score of 235, +19, while Kim turned in rounds of 76, 86 and 74 to finish one stroke behind Kow at 236, +20, and in a tie for 45th-place. Kow led the Runnin' Bulldog golfers with 33 pars over the 54-holes.
Junior Steven Jones, who finished in a tie for third-place overall last week at the Davidson College Invitational, recorded rounds of 85, 78 and 82 to finish with a tournament score of 245, +29, and in 56th-place overall.
Arkansas and Kent State finished in a tie for first-place overall as each ended the tournament with a combined team score of 873, +9, seven strokes ahead of third-place finisher Tennessee (880).
Gardner-Webb will take two weeks off before hitting the links once more to compete at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C. on March 22-24th.
