March 15, 2013 | Women's Golf
Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team will return to competition this Sunday for the first time since the end of February when the Runnin' Bulldogs will participate in the C&F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary on March 17-19th, Sunday through Tuesday, in Williamsburg, Va.
The tournament will be played at the River Course at the Kingsmill Resort, which is the same course that hosts the LPGA Kingsmill Championship each year and was the host of the Michelob ULTRA Open for the LPGA and the Michelob Open for the PGA for a number of decades.
The par-71 and 6,000 yards course will host 28 teams this year in the tournament field, including schools such as Boston College, Columbia, Delaware, Navy, Penn, Richmond, Sacred Heart, Towson, St. John's, Yale, Monmouth and Marshall, as well as familiar foes in High Point, Longwood, Winthrop and Wofford.
The Gardner-Webb lineup for the three-day, 54-hole event, will be led by seniors Meghan Allum, Lauren Smith and Sammy Vass, who along with junior Pilar Morgan and freshman Mary Katherine Donovan, all competed last time out for the Runnin' Bulldogs at the High Point University Classic on February 25-26th.
Allum is coming off a 10th-place finish at the HPU Classic, as she posted a round of 78, +6, for the rain-shortened event, while Morgan carded a 79, +7, over the first round to finish in a tie for 14th overall.
Playing as an individual in the event, Donovan matched Morgan with a 79, +7, of her own while both Smith and Vass turned in a first round 81, +9, to stay in the top-20 overall.
On the season, including GWU's six fall tournaments, Allum and Smith lead the Runnin' Bulldogs with each posting a stroke average under 78 overall on the year.
