
Allum's Top-Five Finish Leads GWU to a Fifth-Place Showing at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate

Williamsburg, Va. - In what was another rain-shortened tournament this week for the Gardner-Webb women's Golf team, its second of the spring season, senior golfer Meghan Allum finished in a tie for third-place overall to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a fifth-place team finish at over 36 holes of play at the par-71, 5,913-yards C&F Bank Intercollegiate at the Kingsmill Resort River Course in Williamsburg, Va.
Gardner-Webb carded a first round team score of 309, +25, on Sunday and then had to wait to finish the second round of play on Tuesday, posting a 308, +24, as a team to finish the three-day, 36-hole event in fifth-place overall with a team score of 617, +49.
Allum led the Runnin' Bulldogs on both days of play, as she carded a GWU low round 75, +4, on Sunday and then a 73, +2, on Tuesday to finish in a tie for third-place overall with a two-round combined score of 148, +6. Allum tallied a team-high five birdies over the two-round event, which was tied for the second most among the entire tournament field, and also posted a -1 under par scoring average on the par-5 scoring.
Behind Allum were fellow seniors Lauren Smith and Sammy Vass as each finished in the top-15 overall. Smith carded a first round 78, +7, and then bounced back to shoot a 74, +3, during round two of play to finish in a tie for 12th-place overall with her combined score of 152, +10. Smith led the Runnin' Bulldogs with 24 pars over the 36 holes, which was tied for the second most for the tournament.
Vass was consistent throughout the three-day event, as the senior finished in a tie at 15th-place overall with rounds of 76, +5, and 77, +6, to give her a combined two-round score of 153, +11.
Gardner-Webb freshman Mary Katherine Donovan carded rounds of 80 and 85 to finish in a tie at 81st overall with her combined score of 165, +23, while junior Pilar Morgan posted a second round 84, +13, who was disqualified in the first round of play for signing her score card with the wrong score on the card.
Boston College took first-place overall at the tournament turning in team rounds of 302 and 296 to finish with a combined team score of 598, +30.
In second-place in the team standings and 11-strokes behind Boston College was Richmond at 609, +41, and in third-place was Longwood with a score at 612, +44.
The GWU lady golfers will return to the links for competition this weekend, March 24-25th, when the Runnin' Bulldogs will tee-off at the Low Country Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College in Hilton Head, S.C.
